Blythe has become her own little person so Jason and I think she just looks like Blythe, but we are always hearing "she looks like her Daddy/Mommy." Take our poll on the right and lets see if we can get a majority!

$$$Diapers$$$

Yesterday Blythe and I went to the grocery store and purchased a pack of diapers for the first time. MAN those things are expensive. This is the first package of diapers that we have purchased and I just didn't realize how quickly using cloth diapers really paid off! I got a 34 pack of diapers for $10.99. Blythe usually goes through about 8 diapers a day so that would be roughly $10.99 every 8 days..yikes. Granted you can get them in bulk at sams for about .10 less per diaper, but we don't want to haul disposable diapers either. We plan to use disposable diapers while we are in Colorado so we don't have to take an extra suit case just for diapers. I want to try out the diapers to make sure she doesn't have a bad reaction to them; we wouldn't want to be stuck in Colorado with disposable diapers, a bad rash, and an unhappy baby.

Tricked

On Sunday we had Blythe dressed in a hand me down scottie dog dress with tights.  The tights had fake shoes on them and Blythe desperately wanted to get them off and into her mouth.  She was bent completely forward and pulling as hard as she could.  After about 15 minutes she just got mad so we had to remove the tights :)

Blythe's 1/2 Birthday

Blythe wrapped up her 5th month with swinging and trying new foods!

The Past 6 Months

Can you believe that Blythe will be celebrating her 1/2 Birthday on Friday??  We can't, but it is fun to take a look back and see all the wonderful things she has learned in the past 6 months

Today we took Blythe for her first picnic and we painted her toenails for the first time.  Jason and I are very happy to have a new valentine in our lives!
5 years ago Jason wrote me this poem and gave me a pair of shoes.  They are little silver baby shoes (I am sure you have seen them around my neck).  At the time they stood for being sole mates and now they stand for that as well as the gift of our wonderful daughter!

My Sole’s Sole Mate

 

When young at heart, my sole sedate,

So clean, unlaced, my tongue not felt,

No smell of love, nor hint of fate,

Of hearts to come, and hearts to melt.

 

My world a box, I was trapped in store,

I had a life, my life, no more,

With love to give, and no vaccine,

My sole to sit, and lie unseen,

Then came the day, when I was found,

By a good hearted boy, a boy well round,

He taut me fit, and wore me in,

The ways of right, and left no sin.

 

He showed me the world, for I did as he told,

He wore me in, yet hung me out,

But wearing thin, I felt so old,

I was loosing hope, and finding doubt.

 

I knew not where, nor what it does,

Clean Bill of Health

The Wilkes household has finally recovered from all illnesses.  As it turns out Blythe started with a GI infection, got over that, and ended up with a cold.  Since neither Jason or I had a cold the doctor figures she picked it up on Monday when we brought her in for the GI infection.  When we took her in on Monday she weighed 15 pounds 10 pounds, but was down to 15 pounds 3 ounces by Friday when we took her in for the cold.  There isn't really any medicine approved for babies this little so we just had to wait it out. 

We had a surprise visit from Grandmammy on Saturday and she got some saline to put in Blythe's nose to help clear her out and although while we were doing it she didn't like it (baby torture) it really helped.  Since she woke herself up every time she coughed we put her in bed with us so we could sleep in 30 minute or so intervals and not have to get up and walk into her room.  This system worked well, but notw we are having to retrain her to sleep on her own in her own bed.  We weren't swaddling her in our bed and even had her on her stomach because she preferred to cough that way.  We thought maybe she was done being swaddled, but after having 3 nights of Blythe waking up WAY too often we have gone back to the swaddle.  Last night was the first night we re-swaddled her and we all had a better night of sleep! 

Jan, Momo, and Great Grandma Barbara came into town on Wednesday for one more visit with Blythe before Jan returns to Australia.  Blythe is very spoiled right now with 4+ adults to play with.  Jan taught Blythe a new trick!  She can stand herself up to reach a toy at the coffee table (with very little assistance).  They are headed back to DFW today because Jan flys out Saturday evening.

This weekend will probably consist of a lot of Blythe and Mommy time because Daddy has his qualifying exams on Monday so he will and should have his nose in books all weekend.
