Winnings and Birthdays

We have to back up to the weekend of 9-11. Friday night Jason had a craving for a yummy steak and of course this craving did not come up in time to thaw steaks we already had in the freezer so we decided to head to Sam's to conquer Jason's craving, and of course I am not one to say no to a steak. We loaded the girls in the car and swung by the BMW dealership on the way to Sam's because our BMW logo on the front of the car bit the dust somewhere between Bryan and Fort Worth. While I am sitting in the car with the girls at the 5 0'clock hour when Blythe is ready for a snack and Jericho is ready to nurse, Jason is making a 'quick run in to get the decal' [a quick run into the car dealership is like a quick run into the hardware store...I am still waiting for the time when it is actually quick] and the phone rings. It's Patrick, our neighbor across the street, calling to say that they have made too much dinner and wondering if we would like to help them eat it. By the time Jason gets back into the car we are pretty much in melt down territory with both the girls so we gladly took Patrick up on his offer and decided we could wait and thaw our own steaks and have them tomorrow, eliminating the need to go to Sam's all together. Patrick and Kera mentioned that they were going to check out the Kolache festival in Caldwell tomorrow and Jason and I decided we would check it out as well since we are always complaining there isn't anything fun to do on the weekends in our small town.

Unfortunantly baby James was sick the next day so Patrick and Kera didn't end up going after all, but we ran into our friends Kristin and Mike. Mike had signed up for the Men's Kolache eating contest and Jason decided that he couldn't let Mike do it alone. The entry fee was $10 and I was thinking to myself 'seriously, we are going to pay $10 for you to stuff your face? But Jason and I had decided on our 5th year wedding anniversary that we needed to have more fun so I just looked at is as an investment of fun.' As Jason was signing his name and paying his entry fee Mike mentioned that he would be pretty sore if he lost to Jason. I just chuckled because Jason isn't a big guy, he's never attempted an eating contest before, the man who won last year consumed each Kolache in 9 seconds which was crazy fast, so obviously Jason wasn't going to win. Don't get me wrong Jason always ends up being good at anything he does, but I didn't really think he would be a real competitor....

Here's Mike and Jason gearing up for the big consumption:

Then the game faces go on:

And the horn is blown:

And the winner was going to be determined by the first person who consumed all 8 Kolache's the quickest and stuck out their tongue:

Who would have thought that winner would be Jason (sorry Mike)

So Jason's $10 entry fee ended up sending us home with $40 more than we started with and a cap that Jason has worn ever since, declaring him the State Men's Division Kolache eating contest winner.

By the time we watched the other divisions and celebrated Jason's wining, we had just enough time for Blythe to check out the petting zoo and then it was time to load back up and head home for a nap.

And now spring forward to the weekend of September 18th:

We headed to DFW to celebrate Grandma Debbie's 60th Birthday. We were lucky enough to get all the kids and Grandkids together for a family photo. Corralling a 9,6,3, two 2 year old's, a 17 month old, and an infant for multiple pictures...not the easiest thing to do.

Blythe LOVES birthday's. Probably because she knows that birthday's mean she gets to sing the birthday song and eat cake. But on this birthday she also go to play with her cousins, and Jericho got to meet her Great Grandma Ruth!

Whistle Britches' Midnight Antics

As I was about to drift off into slumber I hear a Ka-Thum - oh crap Blythe fell off the bed, run around, pick her up, no tears, not even awake - put her in the middle of the bed - pillow on one side me on the other. Again almost asleep - Blythe sits straight up in bed announcing "need to eat" - to the kitchen for cheese - eat some cheese in bed, settle down. Little voice "potty" - up, sit on potty as Blythe points out objects in the room - back to bed. Little voice "drink, water" - to the kitchen - stop and request "move this" (the dog food by the refrigerator) I was confused but helped her move it - Blythe sits down to play with the magnets - Oh no we are not doing that it's the middle of the night. Take Mamo's water bottle from the frig to bed - drink a bunch of water, settle down. Little voice "cheese" - give her the rest of her cheese & say Blythe it is late we need to go to sleep. Blythe is flopping around like a fish outta water. I tell her, Blythe, if you can't get still I'm going outside - "Outside!" [what a fab idea]. No no I mean I'm going to leave the room to sleep somewhere else - it's dark outside "Dark" (with furrowed brow). More flopping, I go to the couch to hear Mamo, Mamo, Mamo. Back to my bed, find Nilla, settle down. "Ear" finger in my ear "Mamo's Ear" - leans over to put her face in front of mine - I can't help but laugh. OK it's time to get firm. Blythe, it is late I have to go to sleep because I have to get up early in the morning - I'm not talking to you anymore. Hold her for a bit, more flopping, turn my back. A moment of stillness then I hear Whoow & "No Blow" I bite my tongue not to laugh, another Whoow & "Baxter, No Blow", I do not respond. Blythe proceeds to talk to Joyce, Baxter & Nilla - I hear "tap shoes", "no like tap shoes". Not sure who went to sleep first but that's the last I remember.

Cheese 10 cents, water a penny, a midnight hour with Blythe Priceless!!!

9 pound Spread

As a mother of two when going out and about I always have decide what the best way to transport everyone to and from the car as well as once we are at the destination. The only place that is a no brainer are those rare gems that have the double carts, they easily fit a toddler and an infant car seat. The next is the single carts that may or may not be large enough to fit the car seat in the back and the toddler in the front, and of course the worst of all is the non cart errands and the debate between the stroller (who goes in and who stays out), the moby wrap, the car seat, and the always risky Toddler alone on two feet. I started the morning out with this debate as I was solo taking Jericho to her 2 month appointment. Knowing that I would need two hands to strip Jericho down for the weigh in I opted for the toddler in stroller and the infant in moby wrap.

The 2 month appointment started out with a weigh in, I guessed 14 pounds 6 ounces and Jason went with an even 15 pounds. We were both wrong as Jericho weight in at a light (haha) 13 pounds 13 ounces putting her in the...wait for it....95th percentile! Blythe at 2 months was in the 75th percentile weighing 11 pounds 3 ounces.

Next up is the length where Jericho matched Blythe's 2 month length at 23 inches putting them in the 80th percentile.

So as you are digesting these super high percentiles I should add Blythe's 2 year stats. She weighted in at 22.5 pounds, putting her in the 5th percentile and she was 32 inches tall, putting her in the 8th percentile. A FAR stretch from those 75th and even 80th percentiles she was hitting in the beginning and leaving just 9 pounds between herself and her 2 month old sister.

After the length it was time for the doctor to give Jericho a look see and tell us how perfectly healthy she is. And then comes the bad part, except this time it wasn't so bad. First is the oral polio which Jericho swallowed down like it was a nice change from the norm (Blythe was already crying at this point, at her 2 month check-up that is), and then the 3 shots. The first shot went in and she kinda looked around like "hey, that wasn't cool," and then the second and the third quickly followed. By the second one she was crying, but not wailing like Blythe and as soon as the band-aids were on she was..Over.It....no comfort nursing for this one. I would also like to add that I was MUCH better than I was at Blythe's 2 months check-up, I forgot that we videoed it (http://jamonwilkes.blogspot.com/2008/10/2-months-old.html), no tears (guess you earn that as a second time mom), and a happy balance between comforting Jericho and still giving Blythe attention as she performed the doctor tasks on BAB.
